There has been a recent news on the largest mass shooting in the USA at Virginia Tech, where around 33 people were killed
sometimes, it makes you wonder, ‘ what makes those people wanting to shoot others and kill ownself after that?’
was it the pressure in school? or what?
if Singapore were to be as democratic as USA, people are free to buy weapons as they wish to
there is a high possbility of mass shooting in NUS too.
don’t you think so?
talking about NUS, the hostel that we are staying, PGP, is totally scary
can you imagine someone is killed there and no one willl find out one day until it has started to smell?
or what if someone committed suicide there because of the pressure in school?
has all these issues surfaced in their mind before those people actually build it?
and also, not giving CCA points to the PGP residents and expect us to join the clubs and societies in schools?
while they have already been dominated by others??
*angry*

I haven’t looked up the details of the Virginia Tech shootings, but for the Columbine High School case, it was because the murderers were bullied and (unjustly) picked on by the more popular kids. This was also true for the murder of Kirsten Costas who was a very popular cheerleader. She often picked on Bernadette Protti, the person who murdered her, who was less socially successful (the movie “Death of a Cheerleader” was based on this real-life story). There are a lot of unspoken social rules and classroom politics everywhere; there is the pressure to perform well and this pressure comes from family and society. Often the weak ones succumb to this pressure, some take it on themselves, some take it on others just like these shootings. Who is to blame? Not only the murderers….personally I think a part of the blame lies on society itself.
